Your keys need a place. So does the mail you bring home. But your entryway may not have room for a large table.
A narrow console could help. The first question is how much space you can use.
Measure the walkway, not just the wall
Check the wall width and the space in front of it. Open nearby doors. Think about walking through with bags, taking off shoes and reaching anything beside the table.
A table can fit along a wall and still make the entryway hard to use.
Try the footprint before choosing
Mark the proposed table shape on the floor with paper or surface-safe removable tape. Walk past it as you normally would.
Use the full outside size, including any legs that stick out. This simple check can reveal a design that is too deep.
Decide what the top will hold
Do you need room for keys and a small tray? A lamp? A basket for mail?
Lay those items out and measure the space they need. Choose for your daily routine.
Open space or extra storage?
An open base leaves room for something underneath. Drawers hide small items. A lower shelf adds another surface.
Each choice changes how you use the piece. Check drawer clearance and whether stored items will get in the way.
Check the plan before building
- Finished width, depth and height.
- Wood, hardware and required tools.
- Joint and assembly details.
- Any anchoring or anti-tip instructions.
A tall, narrow piece needs attention to stability. Do not assume that a slim shape will be steady because it looks that way in a drawing.
